When you are a lifelong birder like us, you undoubtedly end up with feeders out in your backyard for years on end. For many of us, birding is a lifetime pursuit and one that comes with all the benefits of being connected to nature and our birds on a daily basis.
In what should come as no surprise to any of us is the fact that over time and continued exposure to the elements, our bird feeders can get a little weathered and every now and then, are in need of some repair.
As one of our most popular models, our Squirrel Buster bird feeders are among the highest quality feeders on the market and can easily be upgraded with new parts over time. With that in mind, we wanted to walk you through the replacement process and highlight some of the most common parts that can be replaced to give your 5 or 10-year-old feeder some new life.
Skirt Guard
Made of high-grade metal, these skirt guards act as a line of defense against weather getting into the feed ports all while giving perching birds a little bit of shelter when hanging out on the perch ring feeding.
As such, the exterior of this piece can become worn out and while the dexterity of the part is seldom compromised, the paint can sometimes chip off, leaving the bottom portion of your feeder with an exposed metal look. Among the easiest parts to replace, we will often order a new one for quick replacement when necessary.
Perch Ring
Just below the skirt guard is the ever-important perch ring. Allowing our birds a safe place to land and enjoy some of the industry’s best bird seed, this piece obviously gets a ton of traffic over the years and too can become worn down.
Shroud
One of the larger pieces of this feeder is the shroud. This piece contains all of the vital components for successful operation of your Squirrel Buster feeder and too can be ordered in its entirety for replacement. This piece contains the bottom portion, which can become beat up if the feeder ever falls or is dropped, as well the patented spring mechanism.
Lifetime Warranty
It should be noted that while all parts are available for ordering, the Brome Bird Care (parent company of Squirrel Buster) provides all customers with a Lifetime Guarantee over all parts in your feeder.
This means that outside of regular wear and tear, if you find that your Squirrel Buster is not operating properly but has not sustained any damage, the parts, and in some cases, the entire feeder can be replaced.
