Well, June has seemingly snuck up on us and after a tumultuous spring season, we are ready to take on all that this summer has to offer. With the forecast full of more sunny days, some warmer weather and all the associated bird sightings that come with it, we are ready to get the summer moving with a great schedule of events.
As with the other three seasons of the year, we are always trying to fill up our schedule as best as possible with local, community-inspired events. In addition to giving us a lot of great things to do and birds to spot, perhaps the best part is meeting up with all of our friends, customers, and neighbours to talk nature and birding.
With that in mind, if you are looking to fill your schedule as well, look no further than our roster of events we will be hosting and taking part in over the next few weeks as outlined below.
Backyard Birding at Scoops Ice Cream in Pakenham
Not too far from our flagship Almonte location lies the historic village of Pakenham. Nestled along the river, this quaint little town is well worth a visit any time of year, with a host of stellar local business and events.
While we certainly have a deep-rooted love for all things birding, a close second would have to be ice cream! For that reason, we have teamed up with our good friend Vic Bode at Scoops Ice Cream, just off the main drag in Pakenham for an afternoon filled with delectable frozen treats and some informative bird watching demonstrations. Join us from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. at Scoops as Bob goes over some of our more popular products and offers those in attendance some insider tips and tricks for attracting birds to your yard.
Location: Scoops Ice Cream – 111 Waba Rd. Pakenham, ON
Date: Saturday, June 10, 2017, 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Birders on Bikes
After an unfortunate rain delay last year, this annual event is back and better than ever! We’ve been running this event for a number of years in partnership with Mississippi Mills Bike Month, leading a group of cycling birders on a scenic bird watching tour. The tour begins and ends at our Almonte location and we will be hosting a brunch at the conclusion of the tour at our next door neighbours, The Mill Street Crepe Company for all who want to refuel after the ride. For families, there is also an abbreviated tour being led by the Mississippi Mills Family Bicycle Club.
Location: Gilligallou Bird Almonte – 14 Mill St. (Heritage Court Mall), Almonte, ON
Date: Sunday, June 11, 2017, Registration – 8 a.m. Tour Departs – 9 a.m. Brunch – 12:30 p.m.
Cost: $5/person
Italian Week on Preston St.
The city’s largest street party kicks off again this weekend and Gilligallou Preston is right in the middle of the action. In addition to the Ferrari’s and vintage Italian cars, there are street performers, events, live music in addition to the fantastic food and drink offered by the other merchants that call Preston Street home. If you are in the neighbourhood, we invite you to stop on by and see us as well.
Location: Preston St., Ottawa ON
Date: June 8 – 18, 2017
