Not everyone is looking for a solution for keeping squirrels out of their bird feeders. As many of us are nature lovers in general, there are some of us that don’t mind the sight of old bushy tail raiding our bird seed. On the other hand, there are those of us who would rather squirrels and other non-avian species simply take what is left on the ground after our back yard birds have had their fill of seed.
No matter which camp you happen to belong to, there is no right or wrong method of thinking. For those looking to keep squirrels at bay, the methods and products that actually work can be far and few between, causing frustration and wasted spend. There are, however, a couple of solutions that are guaranteed to work and the Squirrel Buster Plus feeder is definitely one of them.
We have been proudly supplying birders with these Canadian made products since our stores inception over five years ago and the Squirrel Buster remains one of our most sought after products for one main reason: they are designed to work.
Here’s How…
Functionality
Every time we demonstrate the unique functionality of these feeders, people are always in awe at how well engineered these products are. The bottom section of the feeder, or shroud, is designed to align with the seed ports, making the seed inside accessible to birds alike. When a larger bird or squirrel attempts to take a post on the perch, the weight of the animal forces the shroud in a downward direction, cutting off access to any seed that was previously available.
The factory settings on these feeders are often enough to keep most unwanted visitors away. When you purchase this feeder it is set at a threshold that would trigger the closing mechanism on a small red squirrel weighing only 4 oz.
This setting can easily be adjusted by rotating the transparent cartridge inside the feeder clockwise. Watch as the red line moves down away from the previous setting and thus, increasing the weight required to halt access to the seed. It works in the opposite way as well, by turning the cartridge counter clockwise, you decrease the amount of weight needed to trigger the system.
In addition to the squirrel deterring qualities that have made this feeder so famous, it is also equipped with Brome’s Seed Tube Ventilation System. This system works to keep your seed fresh for a longer period of time. In many tube feeders, solar energy gets trapped inside, much the same as a greenhouse works. This causes damp and decaying bird seed that is unappetizing to both birds and even squirrels.
This design allows air to escape through the patented water-proof vents at the top of the feeder and is fed with fresh air through the vents at the bottom of the tube portion of the feeder.
Maintenance
We all know that clean bird feeders lead to fresh seed and more birds. The problem is many feeders on the market today are designed in such a way that renders them extremely difficult to keep clean, even for the tidiest birders.
That is not the case with this feeder.
Its trademark detachable component system is designed to be assembled and dismantled in a number of minutes by anyone of any age and experience level. Once dismantled, you have left five pieces: the cover, seed tube, skirt, base, and shroud.
When it comes to cleaning each and every component of the Squirrel Buster is 100% dishwasher safe. For easy and effective cleaning, place the components on the top rack of your dishwasher, load with your regular dish soap and run a standard cycle.
