Custom Nesting Box for Screech Owls
Screech owls are smaller than barred owls, and require their own size of nesting box! The hole size is 3 inches, which keeps larger predators - and larger owls - out of the box.
Put the screech owl nesting box at least a 1/2 mile away (or in a separate territory) away from barred owl nesting boxes. Barred owls are aggressive predators of smaller owl species and are known to hunt and kill screech owls rather than share territory. Putting a smaller owl near or inside a barred-owl-sized space invites danger.
This nesting box can also be provided for kestrels.
