We go to great lengths to ensure we cover all the bases when it comes to feeding your backyard birds and proudly offer our customers the very best in bird feed and seed. While our seasonal blends of seed offer everything your backyard birds might want and work excellent at attracting a variety of species of birds, we also carry a number of specialized seeds and feeds to enhance your backyard bird feeding.
In addition to seed such as nyjer and safflower seeds, we also carry a more common variety of feed that your birds will love: peanuts.
Just the same as we would enjoy them, birds love the opportunity to snack on peanuts. Made up of protein and healthy fats, peanuts are a highly nutritious snack for birds and will give them the energy they need during both the breeding and migration seasons.
Who Will Eat Peanuts?
Obviously peanuts are not for everyone in the bird kingdom as some birds lack the bill strength or size to break down a shell or the peanut itself. There are, however, a large variety of birds that will undoubtedly thank you for the additional offering including:
To Shell or Not to Shell?
This is really a question of preference and knowing the variety of species in your area could help narrow down your selection. This being said, most birds can shell a peanut quite easily and will have no trouble at all doing so. We offer both options for our birders, where many choose our unshelled product to keep their feeding area clean.
How to use Peanuts
This can get tricky, as birds are not the only ones who will be vying for your fresh peanut offerings. Chipmunks and squirrels will be delighted to know that you have decided to offer peanuts and many will think they were put out just for them.
While this isn’t a problem for many folks, who enjoy the company of smaller mammals such as squirrels, for those looking to reserve the bulk of their peanuts for birds, we recommend using a tray or platform feeder in conjunction with a squirrel proof mounting system such as a pole and baffle.
